The Three Layers of Magnetic Marketing Energy-Based Most Approaches Miss

Magnetic marketing approaches tend to concentrate in one layer. The energy-based approaches concentrate in the presence layer — the state, the frequency, the quality of the practitioner’s showing up in any given moment. The strategic approaches concentrate in the structure layer — which channels, which formats, which cadences, which activities compound most effectively. The identity approaches concentrate in the identity layer — who the practitioner sees themselves as, what self-concept is operating underneath the showing up.

All three of these layers are real. All three affect the quality of magnetic marketing. And most approaches work one at a time.

The Three-Layer Model of Magnetic Presence

The three-layer model of magnetic presence describes these three distinct levels at which magnetic showing up operates — and why working only one or two produces results that are limited relative to what working all three simultaneously creates.

The presence layer is the most immediate — the quality of the practitioner’s awareness, regulation, and genuine engagement in the specific moment of showing up. Presence-layer work improves the quality of each individual piece of magnetic showing up. But without the structure and identity layers, excellent presence in individual pieces doesn’t build an accumulated magnetic field.

The structure layer is the configuration of how the showing up is arranged — which channels carry it, in what formats, at what leverage levels, with what progressive refinement built in. Structure-layer work ensures that genuinely magnetic presence reaches the right people and compounds over time. But without the presence and identity layers, excellent structure carries whatever the practitioner’s presence actually is — which may or may not be genuinely magnetic.

The identity layer is the deepest — who the practitioner genuinely believes themselves to be, what self-concept operates as the ground of all their showing up. Identity-layer work is the most persistent in its effects: the identity that has genuinely updated to include the reality of the practitioner’s value and impact produces a consistently different showing up across all contexts, all channels, all formats.

What the Missing Layer Produces

When one of the three layers is missing or underdeveloped, the other two can’t fully compensate. The practitioner with excellent presence and excellent structure but unaddressed identity will find that the showing up is high quality but doesn’t quite communicate what it should — the identity layer’s unresolved elements show through in the presence, in the language, in the subtle quality of how the practitioner holds themselves in the showing up.

The practitioner with excellent presence and strong identity but weak structure will find that the showing up is genuinely magnetic in individual moments but doesn’t build the compounding presence that sustained visibility requires. The moments are powerful; the field isn’t building.

The practitioner with excellent structure and strong identity but inconsistent presence will find that the scaffolding for magnetic marketing is excellent but that the content within it doesn’t consistently create genuine connection — because the structure is in place without the consistent quality of presence that makes the structure worth inhabiting.

The identity layer in magnetic marketing is often the most underdeveloped of the three, because it’s the least visible and the least often addressed in standard approaches. Identity shifts take longer, require deeper work, and don’t produce the immediate visible feedback that presence and structure work often do. But the identity layer is what makes the other two sustainable and self-renewing rather than requiring constant maintenance.

What Three-Layer Showing Up Looks Like

What three-layer showing up looks like is the showing up of a practitioner who is genuinely present in the moment, in a configuration that compounds over time, from an identity that genuinely encompasses the practitioner’s value and impact. This isn’t rare — but it requires deliberately working all three layers rather than concentrating in the one the practitioner finds most natural or most tractable.

Integrating all three layers in magnetic practice is the work of building a practice that includes presence development, structural awareness, and identity work — not sequentially, but simultaneously, each layer informing and supporting the others.

A practice that works all three layers is more comprehensive than a practice that works only one. But the comprehensiveness is what produces the quality of magnetic marketing that doesn’t depend on any single element being perfect — because when all three layers are working, each supports and amplifies the others.
