7 Ways to Accelerate the Person You Need to Become
The identity shift has its own timeline — one that can’t be compressed to zero. But it can move faster with the right conditions in place. Not through trying harder, but through addressing the specific factors that determine how quickly the system updates.
These seven approaches are grounded in what actually produces faster identity-level change.
1. Add the somatic layer to cognitive work you’re already doing.
If the primary tools in your current practice are reading, reflection, and conversation — you’re working at the cognitive layer. Adding somatic practices doesn’t replace cognitive work; it reaches the layer where the pattern is also encoded, which the cognitive work doesn’t fully access. This alone tends to accelerate change in ways that feel disproportionate to the additional effort.
Practically: develop a practice of noticing where the pattern lives in the body and working with that directly, through breath, movement, or specific somatic techniques.
2. Build the relational environment intentionally.
The environment you’re embedded in is constantly providing relational data that either updates or reinforces the current identity. Intentionally expanding the relational environment to include people who embody the identity you’re working toward — and communities where that identity is normal — accelerates the update because the relational data changes.
The community for conscious entrepreneurs you’re part of is not peripheral to your identity change. It’s part of the mechanism.
3. Increase the frequency of small behavioral experiments.
Each experiment provides evidence. More experiments, more frequently, means more evidence, more frequently. The key is the “small” — not overwhelming the nervous system with experiments that are too charged, but running experiments consistently enough that the evidence accumulates rapidly.
Practically: identify one specific behavior that expresses the new identity and do it three times this week. Next week, the same or a slightly more advanced version.
4. Process the setbacks actively rather than reactively.
When the old pattern runs, the typical response is either self-criticism or ignoring it. Both of these are missed integration opportunities. Active processing — sitting with what happened, what triggered it, what the pattern was protecting against — turns each setback into useful information and additional data about where the work needs to go next.
5. Shorten the time between insight and embodied practice.
The typical gap in identity work: a powerful insight in session, a return to regular life, and the insight slowly fades into cognitive history rather than behavioral change. Shortening this gap — using the insight immediately in a small behavioral experiment the same day — begins the embodiment before the insight loses its charge.
6. Work with the emotional material at the root rather than the symptom.
Much identity work addresses the surface pattern — the undercharging behavior, the visibility avoidance. The pattern at the root is usually an emotional and relational structure: the conditional worth belief, the early relational model, the specific fear. Addressing the root directly tends to produce change across multiple downstream patterns simultaneously, which is faster than addressing each surface pattern separately.
7. Build witnessing relationships.
Being genuinely seen — in the process of the work, with the full pattern visible and the growth visible — by people who hold both with respect, is one of the most reliable accelerants in identity change. It provides the relational confirmation that the new identity needs, and it makes the work visible in ways that solo engagement doesn’t.
This is one of the specific functions of working within a community rather than purely individually.
None of these are hacks that bypass the actual work. They’re conditions that allow the actual work to move at its maximum natural pace.
The self-concept that has these conditions in place does the same work with significantly different outcomes than the one working without them.
The Abundance GPS community on Skool is designed to provide several of these conditions simultaneously. Join free for the first week.
