The 6-Layer Model — A Diagnostic Map for Resistance
When the same block keeps showing up, the question isn’t “why am I broken?” — it’s “which layer is this living in?” The 6-Layer Model tells you exactly that, and exactly where to work.
The framework
The 6-Layer Model maps resistance across six levels: Essence, Ego, Narrative, Somatic, Behavioral, Relational. A block can sit in one layer, several, or all six at once. Applying a Narrative-layer tool (like an affirmation) to a Somatic-layer block (like a trauma response) will never work — and most failed inner work fails for exactly that reason. The 6-Layer Model is the diagnostic that prevents it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which layer a block is in?
There are six diagnostic questions, one per layer. The articles below give you all six.
Can a block be in multiple layers?
Almost always, yes. The articles below show you how to sequence the work — usually outside-in (Relational → Behavioral → Somatic → Narrative → Ego → Essence).
Which layer is hardest to work?
The Somatic and Essence layers usually require the most patience and the most support. The articles below explain why.
How does this fit with shadow work?
Shadow work is one technique that addresses the deeper layers (Somatic + Essence). It’s not the only one — see Emotional Healing & Shadow Work.
