If you’re trying to understand what the Somatic layer in the 6-Layer Block Model actually points at — and why it shows up so often as the layer people skip without realising — the question usually comes from someone who has already done a great deal of cognitive and emotional work and noticed, quietly, that the body still seems to be running its own program underneath all of it. You’ve read the books. You’ve sat with the beliefs. And there is still something that tightens in your chest before a sales call, or freezes your hand above the “send” button on a price that you intellectually know is fair. That’s the territory the Somatic layer is naming.

It’s not a character flaw. It’s not a sign that the inner work hasn’t worked. It’s a signal that one specific layer — the one that lives below thought — hasn’t yet been included in the conversation.

Where the Somatic layer sits in the 6-Layer Block Model

The 6-Layer Block Model is a map of where a business block can actually live. Most programs treat blocks as if they only exist in one place — usually thought (mindset work) or behaviour (strategy and habits). The 6-Layer Model widens that lens. It says a block can be sitting in any of six places: Behavioural, Narrative, Ego, Relational, Somatic, or Essence. If you only address the layer you’re trained to see, the block keeps reorganising itself and showing up somewhere else.

The Somatic layer is the body layer. It’s where your nervous system holds the felt sense of what is safe and what is not. It’s slower to update than thought, and it doesn’t speak in sentences. It speaks in tightness, heat, holding, collapse, hyper-alertness, or numbness. For conscious entrepreneurs with adverse childhood experiences, this layer is often where the deepest patterns are stored — because the body learned, very early, how to keep you safe in environments that weren’t reliably safe.

What the Somatic layer actually looks like in business

This isn’t abstract. The Somatic layer shows up in very specific, recognisable ways:

  • The shallow breathing that starts the moment you open your sales page in edit mode.
  • The flat, foggy feeling that arrives the day after you post something visible.
  • The sudden need to clean the kitchen the moment you sit down to write the offer.
  • The clench in the stomach when a “yes” comes in at a price that’s higher than you’re used to.
  • The strange exhaustion that follows a great launch — heavier than the work itself would explain.

None of these are mindset problems. They’re nervous-system signals. They’re the body saying, in its own language, this level of visibility, money, or being-witnessed is outside the range I currently read as safe. This is closely related to somatic shutdown around success — the specific pattern where the body damps you down precisely when something good is about to land.

Why thinking your way through it doesn’t fully work

Here’s the part that’s important to say gently, because it’s the part most people privately feel ashamed about: you can know everything about why the block exists and still feel it fire in your body. That isn’t a failure of intelligence or willingness. It’s how the layer is built. The Somatic layer doesn’t reorganise through insight alone. It reorganises through repeated, paced experiences of safety while the old pattern is present.

This is also why purely cognitive frameworks — even very good ones — can leave a thoughtful person feeling like the work “almost worked.” The thinking changed. The body didn’t get the memo, because nobody spoke to the body in a language it could receive.

How the Somatic layer interacts with the other five

The 6-Layer Model is most useful when you see how the layers talk to each other. A block in the Narrative layer (“people like me don’t get to charge this”) will often have a somatic echo (tight throat, held breath when you say the number out loud). A block in the Relational layer — say, an old loyalty to a parent who struggled with money — will frequently show up as a somatic flinch when an opportunity to outearn them appears.

So the Somatic layer is rarely working alone. It’s the body’s record of what the other layers have stored. Which means working it well usually involves two moves at once: addressing the story, ego pattern, or relational thread and giving the nervous system a paced way to update alongside it.

How we actually work with this layer

Inside the miraclesfor.me approach, somatic work isn’t a separate program bolted onto the mindset work. It’s integrated. A few principles guide it:

Small doses, repeated. The nervous system updates through titration, not flooding. We don’t ask anyone to feel everything at once. We ask for thirty seconds of contact with a sensation, then a return to ground, then thirty seconds more. Slow is faster here.

Pair the body with the identity move. When we do the Construct Identity step of CLARITI, we don’t only build the new self-concept cognitively. We track what happens in the body as the new identity is rehearsed — because if the body reads the new identity as unsafe, the construction won’t hold.

Use the business itself as the lab. The Somatic layer reveals itself most clearly in real-stakes moments — sending the invoice, going live, naming the price. Inside the integrated work of the Three Pillars framework, the Economic Machine becomes the place where the nervous system gets to practise being witnessed and well-paid in real conditions, not just in journaling.

Honour pacing. If something you’re reading right now is starting to feel heavy, that’s information, not a problem. You’re allowed to put this down and come back to it. For some readers, somatic work is best done with a trauma-informed practitioner alongside community support, not instead of it.

A gentler frame

If the Somatic layer is where you’ve been unknowingly running into the same wall, that isn’t evidence that you’re behind or that the previous work was wasted. It usually means you’ve cleared enough of the upper layers that the deeper one is finally visible. You couldn’t have seen this layer first. The order matters.

If any of this is landing and you’d like to work through it alongside other conscious entrepreneurs who are mapping the same territory in their own businesses, you’re warmly invited into the miraclesfor.me Skool community — where the 6-Layer Model, including the somatic piece, is something we practise with together rather than read about alone.
